The story of So Far No Good can be
traced back to Melbourne, Australia, late 1999. Zac Abroms, Rhys Thompson, Damon
Hughes and Leigh Cooke were involved in a rock band, mainly playing covers and
making assorted noise. This band was titled Blindspot, but they soon discovered
there was another local band of the same name, and the real trouble ensued. The
band broke up soon after. There was a relative hiatus for that band, but at the
same time, Darren Gubbins, Nick Wandke, Steve McWilliams and Will Hamer were
involved in a similar project. Seeing as though this band never managed to get
on stage, they were never titled. And so, this group of young boys were quiet on
the music scene for about a year. As time went by, Zac and Darren, now roughly
15 years old, discovered they shared a similar musical interest. Zac was the
typical kid rocker - Green Day, Offspring, Oasis; while Darren possessed a much
more punk influence. Zac and Darren began playing together in August 2001, with
the helps of Rhys on bass and Leigh on drums. This band played covers as well,
and after a tentative offer for a record deal and a solitary live performance,
Leigh and Rhys silently opted out of the project. Zac and Darren remained
focused: they would get together to jam every weekend or so, and by early 2002,
discovered that they had a kind of musical aptitude with each other as a duo.
The project So Far No Good was created during the early months of 2002,
with Zac and Darren playing their home-made tunes to each other on random
Saturday afternoons. Largely improvised, they pulled together six wonderfully
diverse songs and recorded their first demo in Zac's basement on the 3rd of
August, 2002.
The project has been in full swing for only a few months, but So
Far No Good's songwriting talent and ability to deliver
energetic, diverse music in all circumstances shows that the pair will be
something to look forward to in coming years. So Far No Good consists of
Zac Abroms on guitar and lead vocals, and Darren Gubbins on guitar and backup
vocals. He is yet to sing on a song. Their influences are highly varied, ranging
from such landmarks as The Beatles and Red Hot Chili Peppers to such innovative
new artists like Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World and other indie/punk bands.
Their sound is diverse and unique as is documented on their debut demo
recording, available for download here. The record
consists of stong pop-punk influences, soft rock, lounge and even an
Ibiza/Flamenco dance anthem. So Far No Good plan to record their first EP
in September, 2002.

Age: 17 "November's unsung hero, the badges he wore, a legacy to his pop idols. Once a teeny bopper, always a dropkick. We won't cry for you; you cried enough for us all. Wish you were here, you fucker." |
Age: 16 "Hey everyone. Well, this is it; So Far No Good online. We're really not big enough to have our own website yet, but I guess I can only be good for us. Zac and I are really into our music and we love playing in our little band, so if you have anything to say to us, email us, that would be cool. We had a great time recording the demo and we can't wait to get into a real studio and make some real music. I wanna say hi to all my friends and to anyone else on our website, and to give us a listen and get back to us with whatever you wanna say. Thanks guys." |
